Gonadorelin Acetate (GnRH, LHRH) — Research Grade Peptide, ≥98% Purity (HPLC)
Synthetic GnRH decapeptide. Pulsatile LH/FSH release research tool. Lyophilized powder. Lot-specific COA included.
Gonadorelin Acetate is a synthetic decapeptide with the sequence Pyr-His-Trp-Ser-Tyr-Gly-Leu-Arg-Pro-Gly-NH₂, identical to endogenous gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) produced by specialized neurons in the hypothalamus. GnRH was first characterized in 1971 by Roger Guillemin and Andrew Schally, work that earned them the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1977. Gonadorelin acetate is the synthetic form of this hormone, developed to replicate the physiological signal for therapeutic and research purposes.
The single most important pharmacological fact about gonadorelin is that its biological activity is pulse-dependent. Endogenous GnRH is released in discrete pulses into the hypothalamic-pituitary portal circulation, reaching the anterior pituitary and stimulating the synthesis and release of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). Continuous administration produces the opposite effect — receptor downregulation and suppression of gonadotropin release, the mechanism exploited by GnRH agonist analogues in prostate cancer treatment. Gonadorelin itself is studied specifically for the pulsatile signaling that maintains gonadal function.
In research settings, gonadorelin acetate is used to study pituitary gonadotroph function, GnRH receptor signaling, and the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis. A 2021 meta-analysis pooling 420 men from seven comparative studies reported earlier spermatogenesis onset with pulsatile GnRH versus combined gonadotropin therapy in congenital hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, with no difference in overall spermatogenesis or pregnancy rates.
Supplied as a sterile-filtered, lyophilized powder for in vitro and preclinical research applications. Each lot is independently verified for purity and identity and ships with a Certificate of Analysis.

Note: Gonadorelin is supplied as the free base, acetate, diacetate, and hydrochloride salt forms. The CAS numbers and molecular weights vary by form: 33515-09-2 (free base, ~1182.3 g/mol), 34973-08-5 (acetate), 71447-49-9 (diacetate, ~1302.39 g/mol), and 51952-41-1 (hydrochloride). The diacetate form is the one used in LutrePulse (gonadorelin acetate). Verify the exact form, molecular weight, and purity against the Certificate of Analysis supplied with your lot.
Research applications
Gonadorelin acetate is used in laboratory settings to investigate:
-
GnRH receptor (GNRHR) signaling — activation of the G protein-coupled receptor on pituitary gonadotrophs, with a reported Kᵢ of 13 nM in CHO cells expressing the human receptor, and downstream LH/FSH synthesis and release
-
Pulsatile vs. continuous GnRH signaling — the critical distinction between pulsatile administration (which maintains gonadotropin secretion) and continuous administration (which causes receptor downregulation and suppression)
-
Hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis research — the role of GnRH pulse frequency and amplitude in shaping pituitary output across the reproductive lifespan
-
Congenital hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (CHH) research — a 2021 meta-analysis of 420 men reported earlier spermatogenesis onset with pulsatile GnRH versus combined gonadotropin therapy, with no difference in overall spermatogenesis or pregnancy rates
-
Pituitary function diagnostics — gonadorelin is used in diagnostic testing to assess pituitary gonadotroph function, with the FDA-approved Factrel (gonadorelin hydrochloride) indicated for evaluating hypothalamic-pituitary function
-
Testicular function and TRT adjunct research — gonadorelin is studied for maintaining testicular function during testosterone replacement therapy, though direct evidence for this use remains limited as of September 2026
-
Analytical method development — LC-MS/MS quantification and reference standard preparation for GnRH decapeptide analysis in biological matrices
Handling and storage
Reconstitute under aseptic conditions using sterile water or an appropriate aqueous buffer. Gonadorelin acetate is soluble in water. Aliquot immediately after reconstitution to avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Lyophilized powder is stable for up to 2 years at −20 °C under sealed, desiccated, light-protected conditions. Reconstituted solutions should be stored at 2–8 °C and used within 14–21 days. Do not freeze reconstituted solution.
For laboratory use by qualified personnel only.
